With the dissolution of the "nuclear family", plus the changing attitudes with regard to what constitutes "a family", the need for single parents to get together in a supportive environment has become increasingly necessary. The "Circle for Single Parents" is just such an environment. Run by single parents, "The Circle" is designed to facilitate discussion relative to the challenges of being a single parent, attempting to raise normal and happy children in a world grown increasingly dangerous to the safety of those children. How, for example, to protect your child sexual predators who often lure unsuspecting children away from home via the Internet? What sort of information does one transmit to one's children in order to evoke a healthy caution rather than crippling paranoia? "The Circle" is designed not only to deal with such questions but also to formulate ideas with regard to concrete actions which any parent or guardian may take in the protection of their "wards". Finally, "The Circle" facilitates the "comparing of notes" on such issues as discipline; on how single fathers can be nurturing to their children; or on how single mothers may raise their sons to be normal adults by not being too overly protective, to name but a few. This project is being directed by members of the Preceptory which is associated with the Hughes de Payens Commandery.
